Update 12-19-07
1. Apparently the CFL bulbs are working out great! We received a letter from the electric company this month, we have been using so much less energy since we replaced the bulbs, the are going to drop us from a commercial account to a general use account! That is unbelievable! Just imagine what they could be doing for you in your home!!! What if everyone did it, think of the effects!!
2. We are now using compostable togo Coffee Cups. The lids are not compostable just yet, but hopefully soon.
3. We use a black screen on the website so that your home cpu doesn't have to use as much energy.
4. We are donating our used Fryer oil for fuel purposes.

The Coyote Kitchen is dedicated to having a positive impact on our planet. Here are some of the Green things that we are doing and that we hope to do soon.
1. Light Bulbs. All light bulbs in the kitchen have been replaced with CFL bulbs. As the fluorescents need to be replaced, we will replace them with energy star bulbs. In the next few months, we will replace the lights in the dining room with CFL.
2. Togo Supplies. We are now using potato starch cutlery. This stuff can be thrown into your composter and will break down in 90 days. We are not going to be ordering anymore Styrofoams containers. Once we have used up our back stock, we will be purchasing potato and corn starch cups, lids and soup bowls. We will use Bio-Paks for all medium to large togo orders. Please click here to see where we purchase our new eco to go stuff.
3. Recycling. We currently recycle all our #1 and #2 plastics, cans, cardboard and glass.
Future goals:
Hot water on demand
low flow toilets
energy saver sinks and hand dryers
solar panels
Another local business, Bald Guy Brew, is dedicated to help bring a positive change. Please check out his site and his shop.

While attending a food show in Charlotte this weekend, I had a very nice talk with the owners of Canyons in Blowing Rock. Bart and Nancy are dedicated to going green with their to-go supplies. A big problem many small business's is that no major distributor supports the green effort; instead we have to go through much smaller vendors and our price can be up to three times the normal price. I salute any business who looks past this and finds the way to still go green. Please visit their website and their restaurant, tell them you support their decision to become green. It's because of business's like Bald Guy Brew, Canyons and Coyote, that the big distributors will have to take notice.
UPDATE 6/2/07
We installed ceiling fans with CFL bulbs yesterday!
Major energy savers...
The old bulbs: 5 60 watt bulbs x 4 ceiling lights = 1200 watts used.
The new CFL bulbs: 4 9 watt CFL bulbs x 3 ceiling lights + 5 9 watt CFL bulbs = 153 watts used.
1200 watts - 153 watts = 1047 watts saved!
Did I say major energy saver?
